Myths Surrounding Cellulite Skin Condition

July 6th, 2008 · No Comments

by Patricia Hammond

Cellulite skin condition is a common problem shared by individuals of varying ages. This is probably why more and more myths about cellulite skin condition are popping up. Among the abundant myths, the following are the most common:

Only Fat Women Get Cellulite

A cellulite skin condition is not a condition reserved for fat people and definitely not just among fat women. It is true that 95% of women generally suffer from cellulite. There are however also thousands of men who also have the same condition.

Both men and women who have cellulite are also not necessarily fat or obese individuals. Even thin people can have cellulite. This is because there is some evidence that cellulite may be caused by genetic predispositions or increased estrogen hormone levels.

All I Need is Exercise

This is probably one of the most misunderstood myths. Exercise alone cannot eliminate cellulite that is already present. Some say this is because cellulite is a form of fat that is trapped and cannot be properly burned by exercise. Exercise however can effectively reduce your total body fat even before cellulite appears. Trim and fit people may have cellulite but the cellulite skin condition may be less visible in them and may be seen only by pinching cellulite areas.

In individuals with cellulite, the right training exercise program can improve the blood flow which is crucial for toxic waste elimination. Having an active lifestyle therefore almost always beats a sedentary one.

All I Need is a Good Diet

This is another common cellulite skin condition myth that has received several arguments. It is true that eating the right kinds of foods cannot erase cellulite. If you eat less fats and more grains, fruits and vegetables however, you will be able to reduce your body fat and clean up your system. Eating the proper diet can help you get more antioxidants that can fight free radicals that can make your cellulite skin condition worse.

Liposuction is the Only Solution For Me

Liposuction was once thought to be a good solution for cellulite skin condition. This is no longer the case. Cellulite can actually get worse because of liposuction. Liposuction is also not for everyone. It is a surgical procedure that works best only among young patients. Liposuction is generally a shaping method and can only be used by people who are already more or less close to fit and would just like a little muscular or body definition.

There is No Solution for Cellulite

There is no need to just live with your cellulite skin condition. Eating right and exercising can help prevent your condition from worsening. The right lifestyle however needs to be supplemented by other treatments. Some topical cellulite creams for example have been proven to be effective. It is true though that there are really topical rip off products that cannot really bring about any results. Some natural products however have shown great promise as cellulite treatments. Product with caffeine, green tea extract, algae extract and retinol A may be good products to use as cellulite treatment.

Easy Tips to Spruce Up Your Treadmill Workouts

by Torri Tompson

Boredom is one of the main killers of exercise programs. If you feel your treadmill workouts are becoming boring, mix it up a bit. There are a lot of things you can do to make your treadmill workouts interesting and enjoyable. Here are a few ideas:

Music, CDs, TV and Movies. Most everyone has a favorite style of music. Use this to your advantage. Listening to your favorite music during treadmill workouts can make the time pass faster and it also helps you focus more. If music isn’t your thing, you may prefer to listen to audio books or motivational CDs. Treadmill workouts are also a great time to catch up on TV shows and watch movies.

Pyramid Walking. Increase your walking pace by .1 mph every minute for 15 minutes. Then, slow your walking pace by .1 mph every minute for 15 minutes. This is an awesome mental and physical challenge.

Walking for Dancers. If you have good coordination and love to dance, you can use your treadmill workouts as a time to increase your balance and strength. All you have to do is walk backwards at an even pace for a portion of your treadmill workouts.

Numbers. To keep your mind busy during a workout, count your steps for one minute. Take a break the following minute, and then count your steps the next minute. Not only will this help you see when you need to pick up your pace, but over time you can see how your foot speed increases.

Circuit Training. Many people find that circuit training is a great addition to treadmill workouts. Start out by walking for five minutes. Then, step off your machine and do crunches, push ups, lunges or free weights for one minute. Then, get back on your treadmill and repeat until your workout is completed.

Stretching. Stretching just feels good! After walking for ten minutes, get off of your machine and do stretch exercises for five minutes. Get back on your machine and repeat this process until your workout time is up.

Step and Walk. Take turns walking on your treadmill and using a stepper. The number of minutes you allot to each is individual based upon your fitness level.

Walk Around the World. If there is a place you have always wanted to vacation or live, why not see how long it would take you to walk there? You can chart your progress on a map. This is a very fun challenge for many people.

Heart Rate Training. Heart rate training is quick and intense. It is favored by many who are looking to bring variety into their workouts while keeping their fitness goals moving to the next level. Heart rate training involves monitoring your heart rate for the duration of your workout and moving in and out of different heart rate zones for two or three minute intervals.

These are just some ideas to make your treadmill workouts more fun and interesting. The possibilities of what you can do are endless. Try new things and see what works for you. Keeping boredom at bay will keep your fitness goals on track and make your treadmill workouts fly by.
